Customer Guide

Perez Inc. is committed to providing our customers with quality care and excellent service—even after we’ve left your home, office, or business. You can help extend the life of your carpets, rugs, and upholstery by following a few easy steps to ensure their care and protection.

Carpet Cleaning

After Cleaning

Follow these simple guidelines after cleaning to achieve the best results:

  • Stay off of the damp carpet as much as possible to avoid soil tracking and to allow the pile to dry in its “up” position.
  • If it is necessary to walk on damp carpet, we recommend wearing clean, white socks and no bare feet. Take caution when wearing slippers or shoes, since some of the dyes on these may be transferred onto the carpet.
  • Allow three to twenty-four hours for the carpet to dry, depending on the fiber, degree of soiling and ambient temperature. If the carpet was treated with a protector, allow twenty-four hours for curing.
  • Plastic squares and foam blocks found under your furniture should be left in place for forty-eight to seventy-two hours or until the carpet is totally dry.
  • Make sure there is plenty of ventilation, since increased air circulation will aid in the drying process.
  • We also recommend applying Teflon or Scotchgard™ for carpet protection.

Upholstery Cleaning

During Cleaning

Keep in mind the following during the cleaning process:

  • Not all stains can be removed completely, even with the aid of professional spotting agents. Due to dye characteristics, pH effects, oxidation and other reactions, some spots may not be completely removed.
  • Stains and worn or faded areas that were hidden may appear lighter or more apparent after cleaning has removed the soil. Loose threads may be snipped off in worn areas to improve their appearance.
  • Even though we use mild biodegradable solutions, for health and safety reasons always keep small children and pets off of freshly cleaned upholstery. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation if the upholstery was dry cleaned, since increased air circulation aids in the drying process. A good rule of thumb is to wait at least 24 hours before coming into direct contact with the freshly cleaned fabric.

After Cleaning

Follow these simple guidelines after cleaning to achieve the best results:

  • Cushions are usually stacked “teepee” style to dry. They may be rotated bottom to top every two to three hours to improve their drying time.
  • Allow enough time for thorough drying before replacing cushions or sitting on your furniture.
  • Allow for two to twenty-four hours of drying time, depending on the fiber and degree of soiling. Allow twenty-four hours for curing if the fabric was treated with a protector.
  • Velvets need special care. When we have finished cleaning, the “pile” of the velvet is brushed into its “down” position. It must dry in this position to retain its appearance, so please do not touch it while it is still wet. The stiffness that may occur after drying can be removed by brushing it up and then back into its down position. This may loosen a slight residue of cleaning as a fine dust.
  • Vacuuming is essential for velvet maintenance.
  • Increased air circulation will aid your fabrics in drying, so make sure there is plenty of ventilation.

Area Rug Cleaning

Everyday Care
  • Vacuum rugs regularly, as needed.
  • Vacuum small rugs rather than shaking them.
  • Use caster cups under the legs of chairs to protect rugs.
  • Look under rugs regularly for signs of moth damage, such as tunnels or tufts of wool. If you find signs of moths, have all of your rugs and wool clothing professionally cleaned.
Spot Cleaning
  • Clean a spill immediately before it has a chance to set. Carefully blot up excess liquid with a paper towel, and then pour a small amount of club soda onto the soiled area. With a soft cloth, blot (do not rub) the stain from the outer edges inward to avoid spreading the stain.
  • Blot up the excess liquid and elevate the dampened spot to allow for air circulation until it is dry. If you are unsuccessful, contact us to clean the rug professionally.
  • For large spots, tough or dark stains (blood, wine, soft drinks, fruit punch, animal stains, etc.), contact Perez Inc. as soon as possible to have the rug professionally cleaned.
For specific spills, a variety of household solutions may be used:
  • Fresh food – Sprinkle cornmeal on the spot. It will act like a blotter. Then vacuum.
  • Tea stains – Remove with soda water.
  • Red wine – Remove with white wine.
  • Grease – Try a mild cleaning fluid, having first tried it on a small, hidden area on the rug.
  • Gum – Harden with an ice cube, and then gently scrape it off.
Long-Term Care
Depending on the amount of traffic rugs experience, they should be cleaned every two to three years. Perez Inc.’s rug cleaning services will remove dirt, in addition to the surface soiling that gradually dulls the appearance of a rug. Do not use commercial dry cleaners, as your handmade rug will require re-blocking following the cleaning process. Perez Inc. is qualified to provide this service.
To extend the life of your rug, turn it 180 degrees every year or two. This helps to even out your rug’s exposure to traffic and sunlight.
Rug Pads/Soil and Stain Treatment
We recommend soil and stain resistant treatment on area rugs and the use of underlay padding. We suggest that rugs be professionally cleaned every year depending upon the level of traffic. To enhance the life of your rug, we recommend the use of a rug pad.
For all types of rugs, the appropriate rug pad will help to:

  • Eliminate buckling, curling, and slippage
  • Slow down the aging process by keeping distance between the rug and any floor dust and dirt
  • Make vacuuming more effective
